Hey team! Dropping new blog post real quick. We made it to Melbourne! Physically in one piece, mentally/emotionally less so!

We’ve delved into the past few months I’ve spent working, mainly to afford an epic road  trip coming up. I had a pretty decent outline of how I wanted the rest of my year to go that just about relied on one thing: a car! Well aforementioned car breathed her final breath this morning just a short two and half weeks after buying her.

I camped out at a bowling club about 90 minutes north of Melbourne last night, planning to drive in the morning to go to the Australian Open. Instead, I was at the bowlo until 1:30 with some lovely older men who made it their mission to try to start my battery. When that failed I hopped in a tow truck and made the 60min drive to the nearest mechanic under my coverage, only for them to tell me the issue was with the engine and would cost around $6000. UHHHHHHH.

So! Goodbye Ms. Chum Bucket. We shared a not so lovely time with your scary brakes and broken AC on summer days!

Truly the start of this roadtrip was very fun though. Southern New South Wales and Victoria are quite pretty with their rolling hills. It sucks so so much to lose thousands of dollars on that car. But I think the real pain is in the plan I’ve been working on since I first landed in Sydney being crushed.

I’ve spent the rest of today trying to figure out what to do with the car and my entire collection of goods I have stored inside. It’s been a lot to try to get back as much of the money I’ve lost as I can and it’s a headache to work through all of the logistics.

I’m still pretty shook up by the whole experience. First time buying a car and don’t think I’ll be doing that again for a LONG time. Most of today I’ve really just wanted to go home, see some familiar faces and do all the things I know for sure make me feel better. But I also know I’d kick myself for years to come if I let a silly car get in the way of this trip I’ve been thinking about for years.

I’ll still get to see Oz, don’t fret. And I’ll make sure you all get to see it here too. It just might end up being a little more patchwork and garbage rat style than I had expected. And maybe in the end I’ll realize it was all for the best.

Hi Maggie, I'm SO sorry about your car and this big bump you're facing. It stinks, and I wish it were different. Still SO proud of you for now focusing on how to recover and reset. You have proven yourself to be both visionary and resilient, and I believe that you're going to figure out a good plan! cheering you on, Amy
